    Access Code and Text Book

FAQ 1: Where can students find the cheapest price options for access code and texts?
ANS 1: Send students to the Cengagebrain BMCC microsite website: cengagebrain.com/micro/bmccmat

FAQ 2: What is the price of the access code/ebook on the Cengagebrain BMCC microsite website:
cengagebrain.com/micro/bmccmat?
ANS 2: $55.15

FAQ 3: Are the prices on the Cengagebrain BMCC microsite website: cengagebrain.com/micro/bmccmat the same
as the prices on the Cengagebrain .com website?
ANS 3: NO!

FAQ 4: Will students find the cheapest price of $55.15 for the access code on the Cengagebrain.com website?
ANS 4: NO! The price is $65

FAQ 5: If students purchase the access code from the Webassign website, will the price be the same as on the one on
the Cengagebrain BMCC micro site cengagebrain.com/micro/bmccmat ?
ANS 5: NO! it will be $75 not $55.15

FAQ 6: When the students purchase their access code through that microsite, will they receive it right away through
e-mail?
ANS 6: Yes!

Enrollment VS Registration

FAQ 7: What is the difference between a student being enrolled on Webassign and being registered?
ANS 7: Any student can be enrolled during the free grace period. When students pay for an access code and enters the
code on Webassign, they are then considered “Registered” .

FAQ 8: How can an instructor find which students are enrolled and which are registered?
ANS 8: Go to Class View on WebAssign. Click on roster to see who is enrolled. Stay on page and click on “Who’s
Registered”. Yes means that a student purchased an access code, and no means that they have not
purchased an access code.
Repeater Registration
FAQ 9: Do repeater students have to pay again for an access code if they paid in a previous semester?
ANS 9: No, as long as the same text book(and same edition) is being used.

FAQ 10: Do repeater students have to enter a new class key when registering for a new section?
ANS 10: Yes, each section of a course has a unique class key.

FAQ 11: Where is the class key located?
ANS 11: Click on Class view –then click on Class Key Settings

FAQ 12: What is the Class Key?
ANS 12: Each section corresponds to a unique code called a class key.

FAQ 13: How do students enter a class key on WebAssign?
ANS: 13: Instruction are found on syllabus

FAQ 14: Must all repeater students enter a class key in a new section if they have a previous WebAssign account?
ANS 14: YES! Each section of a course has a unique class key.

Setting Up a Gradebook

FAQ 15: Does WebAssign provide a Wizard to help an instructor set up the grade book? How?
ANS 15: Yes! Click on Class View-then

FAQ 16: Can the grade book be set up to customize the course grade distribution? How?
Ans 16: Yes! Click on Class View-then- rest coming soon

FAQ 17: Can the instructor customize the grade book by creating new categories, and entering grades manually? How?
ANS 17: Yes!
FAQ 18: Does WebAssign automatically calculate grades for the categories of homework, quizzes, and intervention assignments?
ANS 18: Yes!

FAQ 19: Can the instructor override the automatic calculation option? How?
ANS 19: Yes!

Entering Midterm Exam Scores Manually
FAQ 20: Is it possible to enter Midterm Exam score manually in the WebAssign grade book?
ANS 20: Yes!
Instructions for entering Midterm Scores :
Login to WebAssign.
Go to your section either by clicking on CLASS VIEW or JUMP TO CLASS
Click on GRADES
On dropdown menu, Click on GRADEBOOK
Click on SETTINGS
Click on “MANUAL” to the right of Midterm Grade
Click on “ENTER OR UPDATE MIDTERM GRADE AVERAGES”
Click on “ENTER AVERAGES FOR EACH STUDENT BY HAND”-then click NEXT
Enter your students’ scores by hand and then click NEXT
Then click NEXT again
Click on “UPGRADE GRADEBOOK”
Click on SAVE
Click on GRADES then GRADEBOOK to see the posted scores

Changing Assignment Due Dates and Availability
FAQ 21: How does an instructor change assignment due dates?
ANS 21: Click on CLASS VIEW and then CLASS SCHEDULE

FAQ 22: Can assignment due dates be changed simultaneously?
ANS 22: Not yet-the request has been sent to WebAssign
FAQ 23: How does an instructor make assignment available or unavailable?
ANS 23: Go to CLASS VIEW-click on ALL ASSIGNMENTS-then click on (bottom of assignments)ASSIGNMENT AVAILABILITY -Click on ALL ASSIGNMENTS again-click on square(s) for desired assignments–must click SAVE at bottom

FAQ 24: Can assignment availability be changed simultaneously?
ANS 24: Not yet-the request has been sent to WebAssign

Setting up Extensions
FAQ 25: How can an instructor set up the automatic(or automatic/manual) extension option for students with or without penalty?

ANS 25: Click on Class View-then on click on Communication-then click on Extension (answered or unanswered
option)-then click on settings (right side of page)-click Enable ( choose options)and then click on Apply at
bottom of page.

Common Syntax Errors and Keyboard Shortcuts on WebAssign

FAQ 26: Does WebAssign mark a response incorrect if a fraction is not reduced or an answer is not simplified?
ANS 26: Yes!–Enter only reduced fractions.
-Enter only proper or improper fractions- do not enter mixed numbers.
-〖Enter only simplied answers:Ex.∶ 2〗^(3 ) must be entered as 8(the function palette will not pop up in this
case)

FAQ 27: Are the WebAssign responses case-sensitive?
ANS 27: Yes !- a lower case x cannot replace an upper case X

FAQ 28: What are some common syntax errors?
ANS 28: Ex. 1. Do not use the letter o for the number zero (0).
Ex. 2. Do not use the letter x for the multiplication sign.
Ex.3 Do not type commas when writing numbers. – For example, write 5280, not 5,280
Ex. 4 Do not use units in answers-omit $, %, ft. etc

FAQ 29: Are there some key board shortcuts that can be used on Webassign?
ANS 29: Yes!
Using keyboard shortcuts:
-Exponent: shift + 6 or sqrt ( )
-Fraction: to write 2/3, type 2 + / +3 or ctrl + / or Fn + 0
-Absolute value: or abs ( ) or shift +\
-Multiplication sign: Fn + p
FAQ 30: Can one copy and paste an answer into answer box?
ANS30: No! Copying text from anywhere and pasting it in an answer box will result in an error. You must type your
response using the keyboard or the tools provided.

Emailing Students
FAQ 31: Can instructors send a mass email to an entire section (all enrolled students)on Webassign?

ANS 31: YES! If name appears on roster, emails can be sent to all enrolled students regardless of whether access code was purchased. Click on Class View then Roster- then at bottom of page, click on Select All then click on Email Selected
Posting Announcements
FAQ 32: Can instructors post an announcement on Webassign?

ANS 32: YES! Click on Class View then Communication-then click on New Announcements-Announcements can be posted simultaneously to more than one class.
