HOW TO JOIN A YAHOO GROUP

 Note: after you create the account and then join a group, you can have email forwarded from the group to any email account you like, it does not have to be a yahoo account
3.  Once your group membership has been approved, listserv email will automatically be sent to the email address of your choice.

Steps for Student sign-in to WebAssign: ( also included on  mat 51 syllabus)

Step 1: Go to webassign.com or webassign.net then click “Enter Class Key” in the top right corner

Step 2: Enter the Class Key provided by your instructor which looks like this: EXAMPLE bmcc.cuny   XXXX  XXXX

Step 3: Verify your instructor & class information, then click “Yes, this is my class”

Step 4: If you have used WebAssign in the past, log-in with that information

-or-

If you have not used WebAssign in the past, click “Create Account” and enter your information. (Enter the a

preferred email address that you use regularly (it does not have to be your BMCC email)

-or-

If you log-in and are prompted to link your WebAsssign account click “Link your WebAssign Account” and enter that information

Step 5: After logging in you will be given an option to “Verify Payment”. If you have already purchased access through the microsite provided by your instructor,(http://cengagebrain.com/micro/2010447MC) then click “Verify Payment.”     If not, you can select “I’ll do it later” and use the Courtesy Access period and purchase full access later. After the free grace period, you will not be able to continue without entering an Access Code.

Attention: For a “repeater” student who has purchased an access code for MyMathLab or WebAssign in a previous term and has registered again in a new section:
  •  The student does not have to purchase the access code again.(as long as same text is being used)
  •  The access code/ebook is honored for the “life-of-edition” (LOE) of the text book.
  •  The student must obtain a  new class code or class key from the instructor  to be registered on MYMathLab or WebAssign for the new section.
  • Once registered in the new section, a student should automatically have access to the new section on MyMathLab or WebAssign as long as the student logs in with their old username and password.

  • NEW: BMCC ATTENDANCE POLICY: In the case of excessive absence, the instructor has the option of assigning an “R” grade. In the case where a student stops attending at any time, the instructor has the option of assigning a “WU” grade.

 SPRING 2017 SEMESTER

I. MAT 12/51/56 syllabi have been updated for FALL 2017

II. NEW for MAT 56:

  • A scientific calculator is now REQUIRED (TI-30X is recommended) for the final exam.

      Instructors will determine whether calculators are allowed (or required) on all other class exams.

  • Calculators can be borrowed from the library for 7 days.
  • Graphing calculators and cell phone calculators are not allowed.
  • MAT 56 final exam now consists of two part:

           part I:  NO use of  calculators

           part II:  REQUIRED use of calculators

  • Updated sample practice final exams will be available online and in the Math Lab.
  • Suggested problem sets for instructors were created to use as a guide when planning a lesson.
  • E-book available for $55 on WebAssign’s e-book section- use the class key: bmcc.—-.—-

(The homework online component is not required although it is included in bundle for $55)

III.  NEW: MAT 12/51 CEAFE(CUNY Elememtary Algebra Final Exam) Information

  • the CEAFE will continue to count 35 percent of the course grade

  • passage of the course with an average of 70 or higher will qualify the student at minimum for enrollment in the same credit courses as prior to December 2016

  • the CEAFE must be administered as a final exam once

  • NEW: effective December 2016, students will no longer be required to pass the CEAFE to pass elementary algebra

  • NEW:  students  will be allowed to use scientific calculators on the CEAFE

  • NEW:  students  will be allowed to use scientific calculators on the MAT 12/51 Department Final

    (Note that calculators are not allowed for the  MAT 12 PAAE nor the MAT 51 Midterm Exam-Instructors have the option to allow students to use calculators on other in-class exams)

  • NEW: Updated CUNY Exam for MAT 12 /51 will be administered starting Fall 2016

  • NEW: Updated CUNY practice exams will soon be available online and in the Math Lab

  • NEW: MAT 12/51 course grade distribution changes: Midterm Exam: 20%

Final Exam:20%, HW/tests/ quizzes: 25%, CEAFE: 35%

  • NEW: MAT51 Interventions will not replace failing Midterm Exam score. Although encourage students to complete  interventions for much needed practice.

  • NEW: Updated CUNY Exam for MAT 12 /51 will be administered starting Fall 2016

  • NEW: Updated CUNY practice exams will soon be available online and in the Math Lab

  •  *NEW for MAT 12 -MANDATORY for MAT 12 Instructors :    Instructors MUST enter PAAE, Departmental Final, and CUNY Exam scores on MYMathLab grade book . 
  • Rationale: Identify all students who passed PAAE but failed CUNY Exam and who need to be  upgraded from MAT12 to MAT 51. This upgrade will be posted on Degree Works by the Registrar.
  •  Instructions for MAT 12 click on:  How to Enter Offline Items into the MyMathLab Gradebook
